Over R350k traffic fines issued in special operation.

Strategic special roadblocks held in Mahikeng has resulted in over R350 thousand traffic fines issued. The operations were part of a build up to the Presidential Imbizo over the past weekend.

Out of 3452 vehicles stopped, 381 traffic fines were issued and 36 were impounded.

The MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management Sello Lehari has applauded traffic officials for a job well done.

“I think we can all agree that there has been increased visibility of traffic officials on our roads, this weekend particularly in and around Mahikeng.

“This is due to our escalated efforts to enforce compliance on the road as part of saving lives and promoting responsible driving.

“The traffic management officials have done a stellar job thus far over the past couple of weeks, working long hours and clamping down on infringements,” said MEC.

He continues to encourage motorists to comply with the law by ensuring that vehicles are roadworthy, permits are up to date and to avoid driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

“We will by no means show mercy to people who continue to be irresponsible on our roads, all illegal acts will not go unpunished.

“In order to ensure that road fatalities decline, we must all do our part or face the might of the law,“ concluded MEC Lehari.
